Curator’s note

Dance of the Majos at the Banks of Manzanares

An early work by the Spanish master Francisco Goya, made as a design for royal tapestries. It depicts majos in traditional dress dancing merrily by the Manzanares River in Madrid, its bright color and lively mood reflecting the young Goya's affection for everyday Spanish life.
