Terms of Use
Last updated: 2026-06-26
1. The service
Arterra is a free, individually-run service for exploring the world’s museums and artworks. Every exploration feature works without signing in; signing in adds member features such as treasured items, collections, visits, and notes.
2. Content & copyright
Artwork images and basic information use only Open Access (CC0) or public-domain materials, with the source attributed and linked to the specific item. Sources include CC0 collections from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and SMK (Copenhagen), as well as public-domain works via Wikimedia Commons (holdings of the Louvre, Prado, Uffizi, Orsay, and others). Content created by Arterra, such as curator notes, remains the property of Arterra.
3. Member content
Collections and notes you create are yours. If you share an exhibition “publicly,” anyone with the link can view it; you decide whether it is public.
4. Advertising
To help sustain the service, some detail pages may show third-party ads (Google AdSense), subject to Google’s policies. The home (globe) screen carries no ads.
5. Accuracy & disclaimer
Data follows reputable sources but we do not guarantee complete accuracy. If you find an error, please use “Report an error.” The service is provided “as is.”
6. Prohibited conduct
Do not disrupt the service, access it excessively by automated means, or infringe the rights of others.
7. Changes
Any changes to these terms will be posted on this page.
