Curator’s note

Madonna of the Pomegranate

A tondo by Sandro Botticelli, master of the Italian Renaissance, in which the Virgin and Child hold a pomegranate, a traditional symbol of Christ's Passion and Resurrection. The graceful figures and gentle expressions show Botticelli's lyrical sensibility.
