Curator’s note
Rokeby Venus
Painted by Diego Velázquez around 1647–51, this is the sole female nude by him to have survived to the present day. Venus lies with her back to the viewer, and her face appears only as a blurred, indistinct reflection in the mirror Cupid holds up.
