Curator’s note

Sibylle

A figure painting by Camille Corot, beloved for his atmospheric landscapes. Casting a woman as the ancient prophetess Sibyl, he bathes her in soft light and muted color, revealing the poetic, dreamlike mood he brought to figures as well as scenery.
