Curator’s note

The Forest in Winter at Sunset

A grand landscape by the Barbizon master Théodore Rousseau, depicting the great bare trees of a winter forest silhouetted against a glowing sunset. Labored over for years, it is suffused with his deep reverence for nature and a poetic mood.
